There is life in the hands of Manny Vega. With nothing more than a pair of pliers, thick fingers and boundless patience, he transforms thousands of stubby tiles of stone and glass into glimmering mosaic portraits of poets, drummers, mothers and sons. By the end of the workday, he has to plunge his numb, dust-covered hands into hot water to revive them.
Story continued….and MORE PICTURES!
“This is about permanence,” Mr. Vega said. “El Barrio has history, but nobody was keeping it alive. This is about being here for years and years, so when someone comes by and sees this, they’ll say, ‘Man, those Puerto Ricans had class. This is Byzantine cut!’ ”

OCEAN SPRINGS — City officials and the Mississippi Department of Transportation are looking for artists to design panels for the Ocean Springs footing of the new Biloxi Bay Bridge.
The panels are designed to partially hide pilings supporting the new bridge and provide a welcome to Ocean Springs.
The call for artists will officially come at 10 a.m. Monday during a news conference with MDOT Commissioner Wayne Brown at the Mary C. O’Keefe Center in Ocean Springs.
