Sonia King’s Traditional Mosaic Techniques & Traditions
With the breathtaking work of hundreds of artists on display throughout, this visually arresting volume showcases mosaics from all corners of the globe and teaches the skills needed to produce 15 beautiful pieces. The history of the art, tools and materials, and techniques come first: bases, adhesives, and grout; shaping and placing tesserae; practical and artistic design considerations; and several methods of creating the actual mosaic. Put that information to use on an array of magnificent international projects—from a Blue Willow Tray to a Rock Garden Fountain—all beautifully illustrated and with the level of difficulty noted.

Every year our mosaic group has an exchange. This year I made this cross for my Florida friend Robin. It is created with raw marble, fused glass “artcabs” and glass tiles. I had so much fun creating it especially knowing it was for Robin.
I received this one from my Michigan friend Margi. I just love it! It was created with Mexican Smalti and amethyst gems from Mosaic Rocksand Millefiori
Do you have a group of artist’s friends? It’s a great way to keep in touch and have fun!
I really found this as an interesting site. I hope you enjoy it. This is a site including sketchbooks of famous artists. Really interesting…here is Matisse’s
Wonder how I came across this wonderful website? I found Robert Chunn’s blogspot from my google alerts for Henri Matisse
I always remind my friends to keep a sketchbook with them and save all your doodles! Doodling is a great way to relieve stress and keep your ideas! Believe me, when you come to a road block with ideas…it’s great to go back and get inspired with your fogotten designs.
This is another favorite artist of mine. I love his color combinations. I hope you find inspiration through his works.

I really feel like I hit hite the jackpot here! I love movies about brush artists and writers. If you feel the same you have to check this out. Thank you Dan Dorman.
“This is a list of several films about the lives of famous artists; mainly painters or sculptors. I would have loved to expand it to include photographers (like the movie Fur [06] about Diane Arbus) but I realized that once I got going on this one it was primarily about masters of the brush. Either way, hope you enjoy. “…more on this …..
